Learning outcomes: Part I: Student possesses basic knowledge on the components of agroecosystem and its functioning. He knows environmental factors and their influence on crops. He is able to identify seed material of different crops and recognize plants of the crops in various stages of growth. He is able to plan soil tillage and choose appropriate seeding technology. Part II: Student possesses knowledge on simplifications in soil tillage, mechanical cultivation of plants and harvesting of crops. He knows how reduced soil tillage affects some properties of soil. He knows environmental role of cover crops and muches. He is able to plan crop production based on various types of crop rotation.

Competences: After completing the course student receives ability to: assess environmental conditions in farm, make decisions on crops suitable for the environmental conditions, choose appropriate implements for soil tillage and for sowing technology. After completing the course student receives ability to choose appropriate method of reduced soil tillage also with mulching strategy. He is able to make decision on mechanical cultivation of a given crop and decision on its harvest method

Prerequisites: Botany, soil science, agrometeorology.

Course content: Part I: Crop and environment, theory of soil tillage, technology of conventional soil tillage, identification of seeds and crops, seed preparation, seed technology, assessment of crop stand after winter, assessment of plant emergence in the field. Part II: Effect of soil tillage on soil structure, simplifications in soil tillage, direct drilling, cover crops and mulches, mechanical cultivation of plants, harvest technologies of crops, basics of crop rotations.

Assessment methods: Positive assessment of practicals and exam, 60% knowledge required, equal participation of practicals and exam in final assessment of the course.
