Learning outcomes: Knowledge: Student has an extended knowledge of the role of organic matter in the natural environment, and its transformation under different bioecological conditions. He knows the basic research methods used in the analysis of organic matter, and knows the methods of classification and evaluation of its quality. Student is familiar with the basic terminology in English in the research of organic matter. Skills: Student knows how to adapt the relevant methods of qualitative and quantitative analysis of organic matter to the analysis undertaken of the environment in particular is able to assess the compost produced on the basis of the quality parameters. He applies the principles of design workshop.Student is able to describe and classify types and forms of organic matter on the basis of observation and field researches.

Competences: Social competences: Student is aware of the variability present in the environment and the consequent need to comply with the principles of good practice in research. Student has the responsibility to the environment and quality of food produced, knows how to predict environmental impacts of activities undertaken, can indicate the risk minimization activities.

Prerequisites: Soil science, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Zoology, Botany.

Course content: Phenomena occurring in soil and water, during the process of decomposition and synthesis of humic substances, methods of analyzing of organic matter, the possibility of using organic waste to produce compost, use of sewage sludge and brown coal for the production of fertilizers.
