Learning outcomes: Knowledge: Student acquires theoretical and practical information about biology and ecology of weeds. Student explains their impact on crop as well as the meaning in environment. Student can distinguish more relevant species at seedling stage. O1 – W01; O1 – W03; O1 – W14 Skills: Student becomes skilful at the assessment of harmfulness of weeds in horticulture. Student presents methods of weed control, selects proper methods of control. As far as chemical control is concerned student explains the legitimacy of preparation selection and the rules of their use. Student predicts the response of plants on given preparation. Student estimates the results of their use on environment O1 – U04; O1 – U08; O1 – U14

Competences: Personal and social competences: Student assesses phenomena between methods of plantation protection against weeds and soils conditions and crop. Student organizes and conducts studies in team. Independently takes decisions on conducting of practices in weed control in varying crops, chooses agents and also method of treatment. Student appreciates the need for training and self-improvement. O1-K01; O1-K03; O1-K04

Prerequisites: Biological principles of agronomy (botany, soil and crop management , microbiology, plant physiology, genetics)

Course content: The relevance of weeds in various ecosystems, particularly agroecosystems. Site factors affecting plant communities. Detrimental and beneficial meaning of weeds settlings crop plantations and their neighbourhood. Methods of plant protection focus on proper use of integrated method. Criterion during taking decision on weed control.
