Learning outcomes: Knowledge - Student: is able to define and understands relations between space arrangement and human needs and behaviors; has basic theoretical knowledge in environmental psychology in relation to landscape architecture ; knows basic research methods and technics in social science; Skills - Student: analyses space features taking into account human behaviors and feelings in various aspects; defines design problems based on analyses and diagnosis of problems in environmental psychology; is able to use their knowledge referring to psychological processes of human behaviors and emotions in space programming and designing

Competences: Competences (Social competences) Student: is aware of user’s role in the process of designing, implementing and use of space; understands the importance of social participation in the design process and is inclined to cooperate with customers and users in every stage of project creation

Prerequisites: -

Course content: Environmental psychology as science (research purpose and subject, discipline history, basic theories and definitions). Place theories. Behavior as analysis unit in design. Perception. Behavioral theories and their application in design. Proxemics. Personal space. Distances. Privacy. Territory (social and physical territory definition, territorial behaviors, elements of territorial functioning). Social interactions. Social ties shaping. Interactional space features. Landscape preferences (models, theories). Environment as the complex of stimuli and signs. Power and quality of stimuli and signs and their influence on the space user. Space composition rules in psychological angle. Cognitive maps. Space safety. Design out crime. Crime prevention through environmental design.
