Learning outcomes: Knowledge Student recognizes objects included in the water and wastewater systems in municipal, commercial and industrial facilities; identifies unit processes in municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plants; knows numerical models to simulate steady states in wastewater treatment plant operation; identifies processes of removing nitrogen and phosphorus based on composition of raw and treated wastewater; knows anaerobic methods of production of volatile fatty acids from primary solids and biogas production from industrial wastewater and sewage sludge; knows ability to reduce odor emissions during wastewater treatment, sludge treatment, pressure transport of wastewater and formed during production of livestock; knows methods of waste gases treatment. Skills Student can determine the structure of water and wastewater systems for municipal and industrial plants; can prepare and analyze the Sankey diagrams; knows how to calculate and design activated sludge chamber using simulators of wastewater treatment plant work; can analyze technological assumptions of anaerobic wastewater treatment facilities and sewage sludge fermentation; analyzes and resolves issues related to reducing the emission of odorous generated in sewerage facilities and during animal production.

Competences: Understands the need for self-education in new technologies for environmental protection.

Prerequisites: fluid mechanics, hydrogeology, water and wastewater treatment technology, water supply and sewerage
