Learning outcomes: Knowledge Student has a general knowledge about the hydroenergetical potential in Poland and in the world, and about the mechanical energy of rivers and oceans. Student knows hydrotechnical issues of inland hydropower plants and knows hydrological conditions necessary for their designing. Student has knowledge about ocean energetic, knows and understands rules describing the energy of waves, tides and ocean currents. Student knows conditions of the construction of hydropower plants and knows the criteria for issuing the opinion about hydroenergetic projects. Skills Student can characterise hydroenergetic potential in Poland and the world; can define criteria for allocating of hydropower plants and make their division; can estimate the basic parameters of hydropower plants; can identify hydrological conditions for the hydroenergetic; can characterise the basic parameters of the waves; knows the theoretical basis about energy from sea tidal; can present and explain the scheme of the power plant operations powered by energy of ocean currents and diffusion power plant operations; can choose a turbine and generator for small hydropower plant; knows how to do the concept of the power plant building including its trim; is able to perform project of modernization of power plant; knows how to prepare drawings of the power plant.

Competences: Student has aware of the impact hydroenergetic on the environment; understands the need and can transfer to the society knowledge and information in the field hydroenergetic.

Prerequisites: fluid mechanics, computer support design, mechanics and endurance of materials, meteorology and hydrology, river regulation, hydro-technical construction

Course content: Hydroenergetic potential of the world, Europe and Poland. The legal regulations in Poland and the European Union about hydroenergetic. Hydropower plants in inland waters. Hydrotechnical solutions of power plants in inland waters. Define hydrological conditions for the energy needs (characteristic flow, measurement of flow, temporal and spatial variability of flows). Types and operating principles of water turbines. The method to deliver drive from the turbine to the generator. Characteristics and selection of turbines. The power and efficiency of hydropower plants. Hydropower plants equipments and automation of their work. Cost-effectiveness of hydropower plant construction. Ocean energetics - research, consortia, horizontal and vertical circulation, thermal energy from oceans. Wave energy - waving, the parameters of waves, internal waves, wave power plants. Hydroenergetic associated with the tides of the sea – tides-creation forces, theoretical basis, earth tides, technological solutions using tides energy. Energy ocean currents and diffusion. Ecological and natural conditions of build hydropower plants.. The criteria for issuing the opinion about hydroenergetic projects
