Semester: 2016/2017 winter
Name: Concrete Structures
Major: Civil Engineering
Study Type: first cycle
Course type: compulsory
Study Semester: 5
ECTS points: 4
Hours (Lectures / Tutorials / Other): 18 / 18 / 0
Lecturer: dr inż. Radosław Tatko
Language of instruction: Polish

Learning outcomes: Understand the behavior of reinforced concrete building systems and select appropriate systems. After completion of the course, the student should be able to analyze and design more complex reinforced concrete and prestressed concrete members as well as special type structures floor systems, frames, tanks, foundations and retaining walls, etc., and recognize the behavior of these structures.

Competences: Proficiency in calculation of reinforcement and loading capacity of beams, slabs and columns subjected to bending moment, shear and axial force as well as familiarity with reinforcing rules for elements discussed within course.

Prerequisites: Undergraduate course in structural mechanics, mechanics of materials, concrete technology.

Course content: Concrete members reinforced with fiber plastic bars (FRP). Deep beams, calculation and reinforcement rules. Two-way beam-slab floors. Flat slab floors (supported directly on columns) – calculation and reinforcing rules. Mushroom slabs. Reinforced concrete stairs. Reinforced concrete frame structures. Approximate methods of frame analysis under vertical and horizontal loads. Retaining walls. Joints in concrete structures. Foundations in plain concrete. Particular rules for the design of reinforced concrete foundations. Design a liquid retaining and containment structures. Prestressed concrete. Prestressing principles of pre-tensioned concrete and post-tensioned concrete. Prestress losses. Examples of prestressed structures.
