Learning outcomes: Knowledge: A student knows the main Polish ecosystems. He expands knowledge about the fundamental rights concerning the various levels of biology, namely: specimen, population, biocoenosis and he is able to understand their functions. A participant have a knowledge about interactions between organisms. A student has basic knowledge of the environment and its protection. He knows the basic processes in the biosphere, the impact of human activities on the environment and can rationally evaluate the activity. Skills: A student is able to analyze the influence of different condition and factors affecting the quality natural environment. He can gather information from a literature, databases and other ecological and environmental sources.

Competences: A participant knows the agriculture risk for the natural environment. He achieves the ability to individual work and active participation in classes. A student is aware of the importance and responsibility for the environment. Is aware of the risk of agricultural production and its impact on the environment.

Prerequisites: Botany, plant physiology, soil science.

Course content: Ecology: Definition of ecology and ecosystems (forests, wetland and water ecosystems). The main ecosystems in Poland and their biodiversity. Presentations of the processes typical for the plants world. The fundamental ecological issues, the succession and its models. Population – the spatial structure and age structure, interactions between species and populations. The hazard of biodiversity. Environmental Protection: Definition of environmental protection. Basic problems with the protection of the environmental components (air, water, soil) and the most important global environmental issues. Waste management, wastewater and sewage management. Organization of environmental protection in Poland and the basic legal acts. Principles and rules of sustainable development.
