Learning outcomes: Knowledge: W1 – student has a widened knowledge in the range of animal breeding and physiology W2 – student has an economic and social knowledge connected to cattle breeding W3 – student has advanced knowledge in the range of agricultural environment management resulting from cattle breeding and husbandry Skills: U1 - student has the knowledge and skills of utilization of needed information from breeding documentation; U2 - student has the knowledge allowing for detailed assessment of ell elements determining beef cattle breeding; U3 - student has the knowledge allowing for an assessment of breeding, environmental conditions, animal health status and for suitable selection of prevention methods for their improvement; U4 - student has the knowledge and skills allowing to integrate particular stages of beef cattle breeding and husbandry.

Competences: K1- student is aware of constant improvement of their qualifications; K2 - student has the knowledge in the range of ethics of work performed; K3 - student has the knowledge in the range of activities aimed at limitation of the risk of animal welfare and widely understood environment threat .

Prerequisites: Animal anatomy, animal physiology, basis of animal nutrition, cattle breeding and husbandry.

Course content: Specificity of beef cattle breeding and husbandry compared to dairy cattle; extensive maintenance systems; breeds: British, Continental, „new introduced”, synthetic lines; mating in breed purity and crossbreeding; conventional and organic breeding technologies; selected issues of inventory buildings modernization; assessment of breeding value (documentation, assessment, selection, choice of pairs for reproduction). basis of nutrition, utilization of meadows and pastures. Systems of beef cattle fattening. Assessment of fattening and slaughter value; assessment and classification of carcass (EUROP). Economic effectiveness of production. Rules of welfare, extensiveness, integration with natural environment.

Assessment methods: Tutorials assessment: The tutorials are completed on the basis of notes and note of created project. On tutorials the following skills are verified: U1, U2, U3, U4 as well as expertise K1 on the basis of the project created on the basis of previously guidelines given. The base of passing U1, U2, U3, U4 and K1 is a creation of 80% project, coresponding to guidelines. The colloquim gets a form of 3 problematic questions (coloquim is 45 minutes long) and systematic unwritten check outs of W1, W2 and W3 knowledge by asking opended questions. A presence on tutorials is obligatory, in case of student's abscense they have to pass (written) test of abandoned part of subjects in form of 1 problematic question (20 minutes long) Course assessment: The basis is completion of the passing of tutorials. Additionaly under account is taken the presence on lectures and tutorials. There is one abscense is allowed on lectures and tutorial. In case of longer abscense student has to pass (written) test of abandoned part of subjects.
