Learning outcomes: Students possess knowledge in the field of biology, chemistry and physiology of plants, with focus on the variety of plant reactions to the pollutants present in soils; They also possess knowledge on environmental development as well as on the protection of environment from unfavorable biotic and non-biotic factors. Students are able to find necessary information in the litarature and databases, to interpret the data and draw conclusions; They are able to formulate their own opinions, carry out simple research under supervision, perform basic chemical measurements, and to recognize and assess human impacts on the environment.
Competences: Students are able to work as individuals or in teams, where they play various roles; They are aware of common responsibility for the tasks to be prepared in the groups

Course content: The risks to environment and to humans caused by soil contamination. The need of soil remediation. Phytoremediation - methods and techniques. The main aims of phytoremediation and its conditions; the rules of plants selection. Phytostabilization. Phytoextraction – its efficiency and potential for practical application.
