Learning outcomes: Knowledge: knows the basic concepts in the field of the valorisation and evaluation of the natural environment; is familiar with some of the methods of valorising and evaluating the environment; knows the documents which describe the state of various types of environment, depending on their manner of use; knows how to put environmental values into practice for the purpose of fulfilling social needs and attaining favourable economic results; Abilities: can characterise and practically use the measures for environmental status; knows how to utilise a given method in practice; can interpret research results to produce socio-economic effects; knows how to undertake specific planning activities in practice, using the acquired knowledge;

Competences: Shows an understanding of the idea of sustainable development; understands the need to discuss and introduce alternative planning solutions due to environmental determinants; can search for and study literary sources and documents on their own; can formulate questions, opinions and statements, as well as work as part of a group; can prepare output materials to evaluate the usefulness of the environment and with regard to the different social needs and possibilities for the economic use of space.

Prerequisites: the environmental determinants of spatial development, commune development strategy, real estate evaluation, economics

Course content: Landscape typology. The agricultural landscape. Valorisation – methodology, methodological basics; Bajerowski’s method, Drzewiecki’s method. The evaluation of environmental values (approaches used in the evaluation of elements of the environment, taxonomy, methodological rules and techniques) – Wejchert’s method; The Kowalczyk method. Limited use zones, areas of special environmental value – spa towns. Plans of protecting environmental protection forms. Planning socio-economic development in environmentally valuable areas. The influence of socio-economic development on environmental values (anthropogenic impact, micro and macro scale changes).
