The course in English will be available if a minimum of 6 students sign up for a group. If less than 6 students sign up for the group, the course will be available in Polish with the possibility of individual support in English.

Learning outcomes: The knowledge on forms of land morphology, the factors of their origin, as well as on the relationships between environmental factors (geology, land morphology, climate, biosphere, human impact) and functioning and value (fertility) of soils is gained. Student acquires skills permitting the recognition of basic soil types, their evaluation, and preparation of soil classification map and soil-agricultural map.

Competences: Student understands the need for continuous learning aimed in increasing of the professional and social competences.

Prerequisites: -

Course content: Introduction to knowledge of the processes that from the geological structures and landforms, with special attention paid to post-glacial structures, landforms and sediments, which have the largest influence on properties, evaluation and productivity of soils and their spatial variability. Preparation to pedological evaluation and cartography of arable and forest soils. Structure of earth system. Endogenic and egzogenic forces influencing morphology of earth surface. Morphological forms of land surface. Basic minerals and rocks. Weathering processes and products. Climate, land morphology and biosphere impacts on soil forming and transformation. Physical, hydraulic and chemical properties of soils. Soil fertility and productivity. Soil erosion and protection. Natural classification of soils. Principles of arable and forest soil evaluation. Principles of soil cartography.
