Learning outcomes: During the course student gains a theoretical knowledge needed to understand relation between atmosphere and biosphere. He masters methodical basis of meteorological measurement and observation also.

Competences: Passing the course permits making elementary meteorological measurement and some research on relation between atmosphere and biosphere

Prerequisites:

Course content: Structure and elements of the earth’s atmosphere. Radiation in the atmosphere. Global balance of the radiation. Greenhouse effect. Heat balance. Heat fluxes (sensible, latent, surface). Air temperature. Water in the atmosphere. Air humidity. Condensation of a saturation vapour in the atmosphere. Evaporation. Evapotranspiration and climatic water balance. Atmospheric pressure. Wind and the air pressure field. The baric highs and lows. Synoptic maps. Global circulation of the atmosphere. Cyclogenesis. Atmospheric front. Centres of atmospheric activity and air masses. Climate changes.
