Learning outcomes: Student knows the basic definitions used in the risk assessment. Student knows the law basics for risk assessment and indicates the objectives of risk assessment. Student lists the methods of risk assessment. Skills Student is able to identify threats in the workplace. Student can choose appropriate method for estimating the occupational risk and can carry out a risk assessment. Student is able to characterize the object of risk assessment.

Competences: Student understands the importance of risk assessment for efficient company management.

Prerequisites: Knowledge of ergonomics and hazard analysis

Course content: This subject concerns a wide analysis of the hazards associated with the performed work. It is also presented an algorithm of occupational risk management (risk assessment and its acceptance). The methods of occupational risk assessment are described in details. Especially specified is the method of assessing worker’s exposure to hazardous and harmful factors in the workplace. The analyzed issues concern mainly accidents at work (post-accident procedure and prevention). The definition of occupational risk and its measurement. Law basics for risk assessment. Requirements for proper risk assessment. Risk perception and acceptance. The risk perception and undertaking. Decision theory as a model for the analysis of dangerous behavior. The algorithm of the occupational risk management. Occupational risk management. The components of risk assessment. Characteristic of objects and identification of threats. The criteria for the classification of risk assessment methods. Quantitative and qualitative methods of risk assessment. Deductive and inductive methods of risk assessment. Matrix methods of risk assessment. Methods of risk assessment which based on indicators. Risk graphs as a method of risk assessment. Risk assessment for measurable factors. Accident and the accident rate. Accident rate as epidemiological phenomenon. Post-accident procedures - requirements for investigators. Models of accidents. Collection of data concerning accidents at work. Reporting of risk assessment and risk informing.
