Learning outcomes: Knowledge: The student knows the nutrients of feed and their metabolism in the body of animals; knows the nutritional value of feed and knows how to determine this value; demonstrates knowledge of animal nutrition. Skills: The student can assess the chemical composition of various feed and determine their nutritional value; knows the methods of preservation of roughage and able to assess their quality and usefulness in animal nutrition; has the capacity of balancing of rations and mixtures of concentrates for animals.

Competences: The student is aware of the impact of inadequately selected feed and improper feeding of animals on animal health, the performance effects and the quality of obtained products; can correctly construct rations for the animal that generate cost-effective production of healthy food; understands the need for learning throughout life.

Prerequisites: -

Course content: Getting to know the chemical ingredients of feed and their nutritional role. Nutrients and their metabolism in animals. The ,easures of nutritional value of feed acc. to various feeding systems.. Minerals and vitamins and their importance in animal nutrition. The nutritional value of feeds with particular emphasis antinutrional factors. The specifity of nutrition of monogastric animals vs ruminants. Balancing of rations and recipes of concentrate mixturesl for different species and type of use of livestock. Elements of management of feedstuffs.
