Learning outcomes: The student knows the technology to basic surveying and mapping, rules for the simple surveying, knows techniques used in surveying to determine the position of the situational and height of points on the earth's surface. Skills The student is able to perform basic test - alignment of simple components, leveling, perform basic calculations, to use the coordinate systems and know their characteristics. The student can read and draw thematic maps and use them for the purposes of the study and design related to spatial planning.

Competences: The student understands the importance of surveying works for the needs of spatial planning. He can cooperate with geodetic and cartographic services.

Prerequisites: mathematics

Course content: The subject develops skills and knowledge of the basics of geodesy and cartography in the performance of simple measuring, reading and developing the thematic maps which are used for the study and design related to spatial planning. The subject transmits knowledge to understand the importance of surveying works for the needs of spatial planning, and the ability to liaise with geodetic and cartographic departments. Surveying tasks. The characteristic of maps and geodetic reference systems. Horizontal and vertical control network. The methods and instruments used to determine the position of points and objects in the horizontal and vertical reference plane. Global positioning system points (GPS). Practical applications of satellite measurement methods. The classification of thematic and principal map. Map symbol. Map scale. The content of topographic maps and principal maps. The principles and ways of presenting the situation and terrain. Conventional signs. Principles and methods of calculation surface. Thematic maps. The methods of data visualization. Methods used for cartographic representation of data on maps. Quantitative methods of data presentation on maps. Aggregation of data - the method of setting ranges class, ways of design classes. The choice of mapping methods depending on the purpose and destination of the map. Method of chorogram map and diagrammatic map. Methods dotted and isolines. Photogrammetric and remote sensing ways and methods of data collection and adjustment of spatial phenomena. Spatial Information Systems. Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Land Information Systems (SIT). Technologies used in studies of digital maps and databases. Software for GIS and SIT. Digital Terrain Model. Principles of construction DTM. Methods of interpolation and approximation. Practical applications of DTM.
