Learning outcomes: Showing the different measures of physiological stress (biological and demographic) and possibility to use them to estimation the biological condition (fitness) of modern and paleo- populations. The discussion some factors determining characteristic traits of human populations in evolutionary past and at present.

Competences: Ability to evaluation the biological condition of the population and the determinants of physiological stress, and on this basis, the ability to estimate living conditions and socio-economic status (especially prehistoric populations).

Prerequisites: None, general ecology (recommended).

Course content: Factors determining human environment and their changes with time. The background of intra-species variability. Secular changes. Phenomena of social stratification. Ecosensivity in various stages of ontogenesis and in dependence on sex. Internal environment of organism, homeostasis. The origin of races and racial theories. Health and immunity. Significance of nutrition and physical activity. Posture defects. Statistical indices qualifying health condition of populations. Factors determining demographical status of modern and paleo-populations.
