Learning outcomes: Knowledge: -explain the basic non-cellular and cellular mechanisms of drug action -describe the properties of different drug classes: pharmacological effects, mechanisms of action, pharmacokinetic parameters, indications, contraindications, drug interactions, adverse effects -use the antibiotic treatment -prescribe the drugs (veterinary prescriptions) Practical skills: -properly interpret the responsibility of veterinary surgeon related to the use of the drugs in animals -find and use the informations about the medicinal products authorized in EU -prescribe and use the drugs according to the legal regulations -recommend the treatment of infectious and infectious diseases and select the drugs according to the route of administration and the species of animal

Competences: Student is responsible for the decisions related to the use of medicinal products in animals -keeps the ethical principles related to the use of the drugs in animals - is responsible for the consequences related to the use of the drugs and their adverse effects

Prerequisites: Biochemistry, Physiology, Pathophysiology, Veterinary Microbiology

Course content: General pharmacology. Characteristic of the principal groups of drugs used in veterinary medicine: drugs acting on the autonomic, central and somatic nervous system, autacoids and anti-inflammatory drugs, drugs acting on the cardiovascular, renal, respiratory and gastrointestinal system, endocrine pharmacology. Chemotherapy of microbial, parasitic and cancer diseases. Dosage forms, drug prescription orders and veterinary feed directives.

Assessment methods: Obligatory passing grades of laboratory course after each semester and final written exam (test) after semester 6. Minimum required knowledge for passing: at least 65%.
