Learning outcomes: The course objective is to introduce the advanced design methodologies for RC special structures. In particular, students will be able to apply the knowledge of concepts they learned for the analysis and design of a variety structures and structural systems and as well as students will train on modern software packages for the analysis and design of structural systems. The emphasis will be placed on usage of relevant codal provisions while designing and detailing of the structures.

Competences: After completion of the course, the student should be able to design advanced engineering concrete structures and to recognize the structural behavior of these structures.

Prerequisites: undergraduate course in structural analysis and undergraduate course in theory and design of reinforced concrete.

Course content: Arches structures. Folded plate and cylindrical shell roof structures. Domes. Hyperbolic paraboloids. Silos and tanks. Chimneys, masts and towers. Tall building structures and offshore drilling platforms. Materials considered include reinforced and prestressed concrete.
