Learning outcomes: The students gain theoretical knowledge on the hierarchisation of services, systematise the features indicating the fulfilment or non-fulfilment of the social role of space, learns about the legal regulations and instruments of preservation of historic monuments and about the practical application of regulations concerning the preservation of cultural environment protection in planning documents. The student after course should be aquitanced with base issues of demography, to understand the basic demographical indicators, and with current trends of demographic structures in World, Europe and Poland.

Competences: On completion of the course, the students will be able to analyse the correctness of localisation of social infrastructure in a housing estate and in rural areas and to recommend procedures for the improvement of living conditions in urbanised areas. The knowledge gained during the course makes it possible for the students to participate in preparation of analyses and studies concerning protection of cultural landscape.The student after course will be able to do methodical research on demographic structures and to do basic demographic prognosis in local and regional scale.

Course content: The levels of socio-economic development, social differentiation of urban areas, hierarchic system of service in urban areas, living conditions of population, factors creating the feeling of fulfilment or non-fulfilment of the social role of space, public space, natural and cultural values of landscape, legal bases of the protection of cultural environment, socio-economic aspects in planning documents, spatial conflicts. The introduction to demography. The sources of information. The demographic indicators and methods of demographic analyses. The changes of people number and distribution. The migrations. Structures and distribution of people according to socio-economic features. The marriages, divorces, separations, births and deceases. The measures of people reproduction. The family and households in demography. The chosen social problems in demography. Hipothesis, prognosis and demographic models.
