Study Semester: 1
ECTS points: 2
Hours (Lectures / Tutorials / Other): 15 / 30 / 0
Lecturer: Dr Agnieszka Bartmańska
Language of instruction: Polish

Learning outcomes: After completing the course student is able to practice the basic laboratory techniques of microbiological (sterile work with microorganisms) and organic chemistry (extraction, chromatography). He can project biotransformation of organic compound by himself. Moreover, on the basis of characteristic data (Rf, Rt, []) the student is capable to identify the product.

Competences: Completing the course makes possible to project the biotransformations of organic compounds, the isolation, the purification and the establish the structure of their products.

Prerequisites: Chemistry

Course content: Stereoisomeria. Biotransformations and other enzymatic processes. Enzymatic reduction of ketones. Biohydroxylation, biohydrolysis. Useful biotransformations. Metabolism of xenobiotics. Biodegradation of environmentally harmful xenobiotics.

Recommended literature: 1. Podstawy biotransformacji, Teresa K., Bartmańska A., Wyd. AR, 2005 2. Biotransformacje Teresa K., Wyd. AR, 2005 3. Chemia organiczna, Wawrzeńczyk C., Wyd. AR, 2001

Assessment methods: Written exam, the minimal level of knowledge required to pass the course: 50%.
