Learning outcomes: At the end of the course student will gain the basis knowledge of microorganisms; will be able to apply principal microscopic and culture techniques and differentiate main groups of microorganisms.

Competences: On ending the course students are capable to work in microbiological laboratoires in various branches of industry. Students are able to control microbiological quality of food, apply suitable methods to determine pathogenic and spoilage microorganisms.

Prerequisites: Biology, Biochemistry

Course content: Morphology, anatomy, life cycles and taxonomy of bacteria, actinomycetes, yeast, filamentous fungi and viruses. Physiology and metabolism of microorganisms, their natural habitats, relationships with other organisms and contribution to the life on our planet.
