Particularly, student gains practical skills enabling him to describe properties of minerals, which are necessary to identify main minerals on the basis of their macroscopic properties. Furthermore, student gains practical skills enabling him to describe structure , fabric and other properties of rocks, which are necessary to identify and classify rocks of different origin.

Competences: Student is able to identify the most common minerals and rocks, and to describe their properties

Prerequisites: none

Course content: Formation and classification of minerals; formation of main igneous rocks, forms of intrusive rocks, plutonic and volcanic processes and rocks, volcanic phenomena, systematic of igneous rocks, weathering and minerals and rocks, clay minerals and their role in natural cycles of elements, formation of sedimentary rocks, clastic rocks, biochemical and chemical rocks, metamorphic processes and metamorphic rocks.
