Learning outcomes: Knowledge of how to draw up a programme of monitoring of the main elements of the natural environment, to select monitoring sites, to determine the required number of samples and sampling frequency, and to assess threats to natural environment elements. Practical knowledge of field reasearch methods and laboratory practices. Skills and abilities acquired: Ability to work for institutions involved in environmental monitoring and to conduct physical and chemical tests of water, soil and bottom deposits.

Competences:

Prerequisites: Adequate knowledge of: chemistry, biology, environmental protection, hydrobiology, limnology

Course content: Discussion of the methods used for monitoring the natural environment as regards surface, underground, precipitation waters, soil, bottom deposits, atmospheric air, waste, noise and electromagnetic radiation. The syllabus provides for three field visits: to the Combined Heat and Power Plant in Wrocław, to the Na Grobli Water Treatment Plant in Wrocław and to Wrocław Wastewater Treatment Plant.
