Learning outcomes: After completing the course student can evaluate the intake of energy and nutrients from diet in relation to recommended guidelines, understands basic relationships between nutrition and health.

Competences: Students are able to make risk assesment of hazardous substances in food products.

Prerequisites: Food Chemistry, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Food Technology

Course content: Providing basic knowledge about energy, containing nutrients and unnutrients – their chemistry, metabolism, intake, source. Nutritional evaluation of main food groups. Energy balance and weight control. Dietary guidelines. Food guide pyramid. Nutrition in the world. Nutrition and health.
