Learning outcomes: The student obtains the knowledge about core groups of engineering materials, about their structures, properties and methods of the formation. Student acquires practical skills in the range of research the macro and microstructures, obtained the strength characterizations and recognizes practical methods realization of the products formation processes.

Competences: The affirmative credit of this part of the object makes possible collection of the decision by student in range of the rational selection of constructional material to his concrete utilization in the food industry. It permits also on the projection of processes of the tooling thermal, chemical and mechanical, on purpose registrations to projected elements of desirable features.

Prerequisites: Physics, Mathematics, The technical drawing

Course content: Engineering materials, including materials used in the machines and devices construction working in the food industry, their classification, properties and uses. Mechanisms of the wear and the destruction, the methods of marking of the properties. Metals and their alloys, graphs of the equilibrium, the microstructures. The bases of the heat- and thermal-chemical treatment of metals. The surface engineering.
