Course content: Introduction – the different definitions of landscape. The systematics of landscape – rural (agricultural) landscape, industrial landscape, postindustrial landscape (urban landscape). The elements of landscape related to its environmental features. The components of landscape related to its leading function. Human community ecology – humans vs. nature (the nature and meaning of the information-energy-mass relation). The evolution of landscape connected with changes in civilisation and culture. Adjusting landscape forms to the psychophysiological, cultural and social needs of humans. Landscape and information – landscape reading. The perception of open landscape. Methods of evaluation and valorisation of landscape. Landscape composition as an icon, the product of a place. Cultural landscape – the evolution of the cultural landscape of Poland, methods of evaluating cultural landscape as part of the general evaluation of landscape resources. Protecting cultural heritage in cities and in rural areas. The structural elements and components of landscape, including: content used in landscape architecture. Elements of landscape, the interior, the walls, the boundaries, the dominants; landscape reading and documenting, panoramas, silhouettes, perspectives, viewpoints; the composition of landscape, the principles of landscape development and design; natural forms, the role of water in landscape and the anthropogenic, historical and contemporary forms of landscape; green spaces as an element of landscape; parks and gardens (designers and examples); the sacred in landscape – large-scale and small-scale sacred sites (temples, chapels, shrines, cemeteries).
