Learning outcomes: After completing the course, the students should: know the basic principles of design and planning directly related to the development plan of an area, the urban project and the architectural project in a general sense; the principles of creating flat and three-dimensional forms, using graphic symbols in planning and design, their different types; know how to differentiate between spatial planning, urban design and architectural design, know the methods used to create new spatial forms, which elements have to be taken into account, how to arrange space, how to develop urban interiors and create spatial order.

Competences: On completion of the course, the student will be able to prepare a simple urban project (for a part of town, detailed arrangement of urban interior); create an introductory concept of a local plan of spatial development using the symbols according to the regulations of the Minister of Infrastructure; create models of urban areas using the theoretical knowledge of composition and spatial arrangement.

Course content: Course introduction. Terminology related to design. The differences between spatial planning and urban and architectural design. Spatial development in prehistory (7000 BC, 3000 BC, 600 BC). Spatial development in the AD era up to contemporary times. Contemporary spatial development. Contemporary tendencies in spatial development. Elements and principles of composition. The theories of composition analysis in planning, urban and architectural works. Location and orientation (position regarding the four corners of the world). Terrain relief and vegetation. The function of terrain as the procedural extension of the purpose of space. Introduction to the basics of green space design. The temporal origins of spatial forms, creative imagination. Spatial arrangement. The development of urban interiors. Introduction to the basics of communication system design. Ergonomics: acquiring optimum work conditions by adjusting the work environment, the machines and the technical equipment to fit the physical and mental characteristics of humans. The urban work sphere (directions of change in work structure, the spatial organisation of work, economic sectors, territorial needs related to work, the urban industrial district). The individual assessment of aesthetic values (straight-curved forms, uniform-divided forms, centralised-dispersed forms). Creating new spatial values (the city and its spatial structure, the city\\\'s social structure as reflected in its spatial structure, the influence of industry on the living environment, the living environment and the conditions for controlling human behaviour). Types of design (the basics of architectural design, the design of housing areas, green spaces, living quarters, industrial facilities, agricultural areas). The problems of regional construction. Review.
