Learning outcomes: After completing the course, the student should be familiar with the basic categories of urban and regional economics, especially their functional and spatial structure, the main factors and barriers of development, and the spatial-economic delimitations and variations of regions: problems considered as the introduction to the subject of regional politics.

Competences: Understanding and application of practical issuess of urban and regional management.

Prerequisites: Economy

Course content: Course introduction – the status of Urban and Regional Economics in the system of spatial sciences. The city and its surroundings. The functions of a city – dynamic and spatial aspects. The process of management and the specific character of city management. Infrastructure resources, property and the branches of urban management – the process of privatisation. Infrastructure resources, property and the branches of urban management – the process of privatisation. The subject structure of the city and the local government – the financing of urban economy. The financing of urban economy. The aspects of a city\\\\\\\'s sustainable development – aims and instruments, ecological problems. The region as a category – regionalisation. The region as a category – region typology (functional and administrative regions). Problems in the local government regarding international cooperation – Euroregions. The problem of the economic development of regions – regional diversity. The problem of the economic development of regions – problematic regions. The basic problems of regional politics. Review.
