Learning outcomes: During the course student obtains a knowledge how to observe and to recognize different forms of farm animals behaviour and how to use results of those observations in practical animal breeding.

Competences: Passing the course permits to realize behavioural observations of farm animals and to evaluate on this base their physiological status, welfare and health.

Prerequisites: Animal physiology, animal breeding

Course content: Genetic and physiological basis of farm animals behaviour, stress and its meaning in animal breeding, description of different forms of animal behaviour (sexual behaviour, care-giving behaviour, agonistic behaviour, investigatory behaviour, social behaviour, care-soliciting behaviour, behaviour of grazing animals and kept in different farm buildings etc.), rules of animal behaviour observations, problem of welfare in animal breeding and some aspects of legal protection of farm animals.
