Learning outcomes: After completing the course, student will get the basic knowledge in the range of breeding and husbandry of pigeons and chosen species of decorative birds. They will know the rules and specificity of reproduction, behaviour. They will know basic rules of care, feeding and maintenance prevention, and also kinds of pigeons utilization. They will acquire the knowledge in the field of the construction of pigeon-houses, buildings (rooms), volier, cages, their types and equipment.

Competences: After completing the course student will be prepared to breeding and husbandry of discussed birds’ species.

Prerequisites: Anatomy, physiology, avian genetics

Course content: The rules of rearing and maintenance of chosen birds’ species. Characteristics of conformation and nutritional requirements of chosen species of parrots, Estrildid finches, canaries, wild, park birds, and pigeons. Basic care and preventive treatments connected with birds’ exhibitions and their maintenance. Pedigree of pigeons, breeding organization in Poland, division of pigeons onto groups, the most important breeds from particular groups, anatomical structure of pigeons, pigeon-house and its equipment, reproduction of pigeons, methods of pigeons breeding, exhibitions of pigeons, diseases of pigeons.
