Semester: 2011/2012 summer
Name: TheorMechStat
Major: Civil Engineering
Study Type: first cycle
Course type: compulsory
Study Semester: 2
ECTS points: 6
Hours (Lectures / Tutorials / Other): 30 / 20 / 0
Lecturer: dr hab. inż. Jan Kempiński, prof. nadzw.
Language of instruction: Polish

Learning outcomes: The main aim of the course is to acknowledge students with the theoretical information on behaviour of basic mechanical systems and to provide them with practical skills on preparing scheme, calculation and solving of statically and non-statically defineable rod structures. Student can prepare arrangement of equations, determine forces of support and internal forces in rod, beam and frame structures. Student is able to consider a dry friction effect on building structure behaviour.

Competences: Completion of the course gives ground for further studies on building structures design and analysis as welle as computation of their internal stress and deformation.

Prerequisites: mathematical analysis, physics, selected topics in algebra

Course content: Models of body in mechanics. Force. Static force moment in relation to pole and axis. Pair of forces. Work. Free and bounded bodies. Levels of . Transformation of force arrangements. Static schemes of elements of construction. Determining of interactions. Internal forces: axial, cutting, bending and rotating moment. Reduction of systems of forces: Scalar invariant, zero system, couple, Central axis, general reduction of a system of forces. Differential relationships between internal forces. Determination of internal forces and their graphs in beams, static determinant frames and three-joints. Solving grid systems.
