Learning outcomes: Completion of the course enables the student to standalone working on 2D drawings and technical documentation with the CAD software. The student is able to manage files, create of blocks and libraries, configure and produce plots of drawings, use advanced features of the software. The course also references to simple 3D modeling.

Competences: After passing the course student can prepare detailed 2D drawings of required complexity. Student is able to use and create libraries of symbols, customize working environment, work with advanced program options. On basis of trained skills one can spread and improve its competence level in usage of the software.

Prerequisites: Basic skills of Windows software maintenance.

Course content: History of CAD systems. Characteristics, abilities and factors influencing choice of proper software. User interface. Communication with the software. File management. Customizing of graphical editor. Views management. Model space and paper space. Template drawing. 2D primitives. Characteristics and modification of the objects. Object Manager. Undo operations. Layers management. Layer manager. Drawing aids: grid, snap, osnap, tracking. Precise drawing with coordinates. Global and relative coordinates. Orthogonal, polar, spherical and cylindrical coordinates. Text. Hatch. Boundary. Region. Boolean operations on 2D and 3D objects. Creation, managing and using of blocks. Attributes. Design Center. Dimensioning. Global and user-defined coordinate system. Multiple viewports. 3D modelling basics. 3D model viewing. 2D objects in 3D space. Elevation and thickness of the object. Edge, surface and solid 3D models. Basic modifications on 3D objects. Sections. Working with bitmaps. Working in paper space. Multiple viewports in paper space. Plot configuration. Customizing of the software.

Recommended literature: A. Pikoń, AutoCAD 2006 PL, Wyd. Helion, Gliwice 2006; or any other book on AutoCAD 2002 or later ; site www.cad.pl; AutoCAD User Manual by Autodesk; AutoCAD help files.

Assessment methods: Approval of semestral project and milestone test drawings. Test of knowledge - minimum 60%.
