Learning outcomes: students understand biotechnological processes of: vitamins, antibiotics, vaccines, antibodies, dextrans and selected recombined biopharmaceutics production by defined strains of microorganisms and animals or vegetal cell lines carried out in different culture systems.

Competences: students are able to plan and supervise pharmaceutical biotechnological processes occurring with microorganism and cell lines.

Prerequisites: biochemistry, general microbiology

Course content: Biocatalysts utilized in biotechnological processes: microorganisms, animal and vegetal cells lines; their advantages and disadvantages ; improvement (mutagenisation, DNA recombination), storage. Environment and culture systems. Principles of bioprocess control and processes guidance. Overview of industrial synthesis of pharmacologically active compounds (antibiotics, vitamins, hormones, monoclonal antibodies, interferons, vaccines ). Basis of formulation of medicaments obtained by biotechnological methods. Law and social aspects of pharmaceutical biotechnology.
