Learning outcomes: During the course students gets the knowledge on waste management organization, basics of law, waste classification, technical possibilities of waste collection, transport recovery and neutralisation location of waste landfills. He can determine quantities, sources of waste and methods of waste management; he can prepare balance and forecast of municipal wastes quantities. He knows methods to readjust existing waste management systems to up to date requirements.

Competences: After the completion of the course Student is able to realize basics tasks within teams engaged in waste management planning in local administration, in enterprises from waste management sector and in other production plants in waste management departments.

Prerequisites: -

Course content: Basics of waste management law. Waste classification, physical, chemical and mechanical properties. Quality and quantity analyses. Waste quantities forecasting. Waste minimization. Waste management in local administration units. Selective waste collection. Composting of solid wastes. Collection and transport of waste. Thermal utilization of MSW and hazardous wastes. Waste landfills: types, location and construction. Processes on MSW landfills. Technical and biological reclamation of landfills.

Assessment methods: Obligatory pass of exercises on the base of tests, prepared forecast of the quantity of waste material, presentations of the idea of the landfill construction for the chosen commune. Written exam, 60% of test points are necessary to pass the exam.
