Semester: 2012/2013 winter
Name: Bioenergy crop production
Major: Environmental Protection
Study Type: first cycle
Course type: optional
Study Semester: 5
ECTS points: 3
Hours (Lectures / Tutorials / Other): 9 / 9 / 0
Lecturer: prof. dr hab. Andrzej Kotecki, dr hab. Marcin Kozak, dr inż. Anna Wondołowska-Grabowska
Language of instruction: Polish

Learning outcomes: Students learn to recognize selected crops (Salix, Miscanthus, Spartina, Helianthus, Sida, Rosa) produced for bioenergy, and knows the principles of preparing reproductive material. They are able to plan a complex technology of crop production of the energy species including costs of plantation establishing. They have knowledge on energy value of the crops as a source of renewable energy.

Competences: After the students obtain the course credit, they have the competence to design technology for bioenergy crop production based on the produced biomass.

Prerequisites: Botanics

Course content: Historic and economic value of renewable and non-renewable energy sources. Basic components of energy crop production: forecrop, method and date of sowing, seeding, organic and mineral fertilization, plant protection, harvest. Energy value of the produced plant biomass. Economic factors conditioning profitability of energy crop production.
