Learning outcomes: 1.Understanding the biological basis of stereotypic behavior in animals. 2.Understanding the neurophysiological processes associated with the action of drugs on the central nervous system. 3.Understanding the pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic properties and rules for groups of drugs that affect the behavior of animals. 4.Understanding the principles of behavioral disorders pharmacotherapy in companion animals.

Competences: Obtaining basic knowledge about the possible use of psychotropic drugs in animals with common behavioral disorders.

Prerequisites: Anatomy, physiology, patophysiology

Course content: 1.The role of endogenous neurotransmitter substances in the mechanisms of action of drugs on the central nervous system. 2.Primary functions of central nervous system, their disorders and mechanisms of action of psychotropic drugs. 3.Biological basis of stereotyped and aggressive behavior in animals. 4.Characteristics of groups of psychotropic drugs action with taking into account the effects, mechanisms of action, pharmacokinetic properties of the target species, adverse effects and pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic interactions. 5.Therapeutic programs used in various states of aggression, phobias, disorders of gender and age.
