Learning outcomes: Learning outcomes and competences: Student classifies methods of simplification in soil tillage. Explains methods of mechanical cultivation in stands of crops and harvesting of crops. Classifies and describes different types of crop rotation. Knowledge: soill tillage before spring crops, reduced soil tillage, no-tillage method, mechanical cultivation of field crops, harvest of crops, cover crops and mulches, crop rotations Skills: Student selects methods of simplifications in soil tillage technology for different farming situations. Assesses quality of plowing the field. Designs crop rotations on different soils and according to market demands.

Competences: Personal and social competences: Students recommends reduced tillage technology and no-tillage method, organize field crop production based on implemented crop rotations, conducts research in team of persons, appreciate importance of permanent learning and widening of personal skills.

Prerequisites: Soil and Crop Management 1.

Course content: LECTURES (1 hour per week) 1. Tillage before winter and spring crops 2. Soil tillage on light and heavy soils and on slopes 3. Reasons for simplifications in soil tillage, simplifications in conventional soil tillage 4. Reduced soil tillage (surface tillage) 5. No-tillage method 6. Mechanical cultivation in stands of different crops 7. Methods of harvesting crops 1 8. Methods of harvesting crops 2 9. Cover crops in field crop production 10. Mulches in field crop production 11. Environmental factors of crop rotations 12. Agronomic factors of crop rotations 13. Types of crop rotations, cereal rotations 14. Other types of crop rotations 15. Fallows and set-asides CLASSES (2 hours per week) 1. Assessment of arable fields in autumn (on farm) 2. Assessment of yields of crops (on farm) 3. Assessment of quality of plowing (on farm) 4. Methods of plowing of arable fields 5. Basic rules for designing crop rotations 6. Designing rotations with cash crops and cover crops 7. Designing rotations with fodder crops 8. Final test
